the witchhunt against the Pentecostals backfired

Sarah Palin mostly dominates the national conversation by her self-identification as primarily as a REPUBLICAN,politician, a  woman, a working mom, and as a Christian. So  One wonders: WHILE SHE IS A HUMAN LIKE ALL OF US and far from perfect like the rest of us now what did Sarah Palin ever do to inspire the media, public rage and bile that exploded upon  on her selection by John McCain? What is there either in this woman’s record or resume to elicit such ferocity? Her now being a real Christian!  In History the crowd deliberately  also chose  Barabbas a known felon over Jesus Christ. “The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.” (Mat 27:21 KJV)

The Devil now had missed. It all backfired. he thought that by killing Jesus Christ he had won. Instead the devil was all still  part of God’s plan for Jesus to die for the sins of mankind.. the Devil never had counted on the resurrection of Jesus Christ..

The Liberal media bashing of the Pentecostals has increased the Citizen’s support for Sarah Palin  and the Republicans…

Besides Jesus Christ many persons  have in real life  falsely, wrongfully been rejected by others, even for their personal religious beliefs. Joseph in the Bible was one of them, so was King David, the Apostles, God’s  many Prophets too.. but God alone  next was the one that placed them on a place of honor too

“Doug Wead The Blog    Has Sarah Palin Spoken in Tongues?  http://dougwead.wordpress.com/2008/09/09/has-sarah-palin-spoken-in-tongues/

Last night a CNN reporter asked that question of Palin’s former pastor.  The media is on the hunt and they smell a kill.  Didn’t Obama’s pastor seriously damage his cause?  Won’t Palin’s Pentecostalism hurt her?  So why does Barack Obama still seem to be in a stupor over John McCain’s pick for Vice President?  And what is the source of John McCain’s cocky smile?  Because Obama and McCain are politicians and not just your average politicians, they are among the best. The American people are getting their money’s worth in this contest.  And as politicians, they know the numbers, the numbers that the media in their supreme arrogance over anything religious, always seems to disbelieve.  John McCain .. why he is still in a race that the Democrats should have already won.  And it is why Obama is looking stunned.  According to Barna, 36% of the American public are charismatic or Pentecostal Christians.  We are talking about huge numbers, probably 80 million adults.   Consider that 24% of the American public are Catholic. 13% are African American… to be counted in this 36% you had to say that you had been “filled with the Holy Spirit” and that you believe that “the charismatic gifts, gifts such as tongues and healing, are still valid and active today.”  So the 36% Penteocstal-Charismatics are hot.  They are adult and active.   Now, here’s where it gets even more ironic.  It turns out that 33% of all Catholics are charismatic..  Most of the 33% are adults, and active.

Some in the media are falling all over themselves to show that Palin is out of step with the nation, that she is a fanatic or, at least, her church is fanatical…What percentage of Americans would agree with “God Damn America” as opposed to “the charismatic gifts, gifts such as tongues and healing, are still valid and active today”? Obama was specifically attempting to peel off the Pentecostal-Charismatics from the rest of the evangelical herd.  Democrats had several meetings set up with Pentecostal leaders.  McCain had misstepped with endorsements from John Hagee and Rod Parsley, both Pentecostals.  Republican, Chuck Grassley, a Baptist, had awakened the Baptist – Pentecostal doctrinal rift by specifically targeting Pentecostal ministries in an “investigation” but exempting any Baptists.  If the Baptist-Pentecostal fracture had endured, it would have rent the last remaining base of the beleaguered presidency of George W. Bush and the melting iceberg from which the McCain team had to launch their campaign.   Now, with one decision, a VP pick, John McCain has turned it all on a dime.

The media rushes greedily on, thinking they have something of interest that will break McCain.  But Obama and McCain know the truth.  The more the media confidently ridicules and attacks the Pentecostal-Charismatics, the more they unite what had been a fractured Republican base and drive this massive constituency into the Republican fold.  In their ignorance, or innocence, the media will use a shotgun approach, (now here’s where their failure to do any homework on religion really hurts them) and they will end up hitting all evangelicals, not just Pentecostals.  When they attack the idea of healing for example, they make Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists and even many New Agers nervous.  Oh, yeah, there is that 33% of Catholics who will wince when media pundits laugh at Palin’s doctrines.  And when they ridicule the born again experience they blow out Baptists and fundamentalist Lutherans.

Thus the media will do the work that a clumsy, liberal Democrat nominee usually did in the past.  In forty years, only two Democratic nominees have won, Carter and Clinton, and both hailed from the South and understood and appealed to evangelicals.   (42% of all Americans claim to be born again Christians, which includes the Pentecostals and Charismatics.)  Barack Obama had this all figured out.  He needed the Pentecostals to balance his liberal voting record in the Senate, to make him something more than a Dukakis or Kerry.  Indeed, the head of his religious outreach is a young Assemblies of God political operator.  (Maybe the media will ask him if he has ever spoken in tongues?)

Sarah Palin is not qualified to be vice president because she was raised in such a church and exposed to such doctrines?  Maybe Pentecostals and Charismatics should not able allowed to operate heavy machinery or be doctors or lawyers.  Maybe 36% of the American public should be exempted from public life.

Obama can only pine as he watches all of his brilliant, nuanced work slip away.  It will take the most informed in the media a few days to figure this out and add a measure of balance to their reporting, to at least offer Pentecostals as much respect as they do Muslims fundamentalists but some won’t ever know what they have done. Mahatma Gandhi, once said, “He who says that religion and politics don’t mix, understands neither one.”

National Journal Contributer Does No Longer Trust ‘Elite Media’

* In Sarah Palin’s first big media interview, on September 11, Charlie Gibson of ABC News asked: “You said recently, in your old church, ‘Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.’ Are we fighting a holy war?” Palin responded: “You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.” Gibson pressed: “Exact words.”

Viewers had no way of knowing that, in fact, Gibson was distorting Palin’s meaning by leaving out critical context and thus making an unremarkable exhortation to prayer sound like a declaration of holy war. Palin had not said that the war was a task from God. She had urged her listeners to “pray” that it was a task from God. A September 3 Associated Press report by Gene Johnson distorted Palin’s meaning in exactly the same way.

* A front-page story in the September 12 Washington Post, by Anne Kornblut, was headlined: “Palin Links Iraq to Sept. 11 in Talk to Troops in Alaska.” This was misleading, as were the first two paragraphs. They implied that Palin had advanced the long-discredited “idea that the Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein helped Al Qaeda plan the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.” In fact, Palin’s reasonably clear meaning was not that Saddam had a role in the 9/11 attacks but that (as the article backhandedly acknowledged) the troops would be fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq, which is related to the group that launched the 9/11 attacks.

* The New York Times did a huge (3,120-word) front-page story on February 21 implying that McCain had had a sexual affair with a female lobbyist while doing her political favors. But the article lacked strong evidence either that there had been a sexual affair or that McCain had crossed legal or ethical lines to do favors. Would The Times have printed the same story had the senator been Barack Obama or John Kerry? I doubt it.

I am also deeply skeptical when I see front-page headlines like “As Mayor of Wasilla, Palin Cut Own Duties, Left Trail of Bad Blood” (Washington Post, September 14), or “Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes” (New York Times, same day). Such loaded language is a badge not of a newsroom committed to impartial investigation but of an ideological echo chamber.

A lot has been said in recent days about what foreigners think about the campaign for president in the U.S. The general message is that all foreigners hate John McCain and especially Sarah Palin, and want Barack Obama to win. Elsevier, one of the best political magazines in the Netherlands, decided to ask female politicians – members of Parliament and cabinet ministers – what they think of Palin. The answers may surprise you.  http://poligazette.com/2008/09/19/dutch-female-politicians-on-sarah-palin/

It is a complete farcical concept that the majority of the news media are fair, balanced, honest for it seems they all do have their religious, political bias, open or hidden agendas… Liberal or conservative ones as well.. Some are  openly, “blatantly abandoning their neutrality.” and they claim to be neutral reporters of the news, facts.. http://thefocusonthefamily.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/verbal-abuse-is-always-unacceptable-too/

  2. Interesting article!

I will say this, I’m a ‘dyed in the wool’ old time Pentecostal, not a Charismatic–and yes there is a big difference. Its going on 29 years since God led me into my first Pentecostal Church and i’ve never left the teachings behind nor compromised them with the Latter-Rain, Joels Army-Dominionist teachings of the Charismatic movement.

Governor Palin is not a Pentecostal. The Churches she has attended are more along the lines of the Charismatic/Dominionism/Joel’s Army type. At least from my research, it certainly appears to be the case.

I am not a Democrat–and neither am i a Republican: I am a Christian. Saying that, i will tell you that many MANY in the Pentecostal Churches right now, are not happy that the media (or other Christian groups) are under the impression that all Pentecostals have jumped on the Palin/McCain bandwagon. For the truth is, especially in my area of the nation, they haven’t.

Many of us ‘hicks’ here in KY who consider ourselves Pentecostals, saw through the reasons as to why McCain choose Governor Palin. It was an appeasement to the Christian Right, in seeking their votes…

Others like myself, will not be voting this year. And like me, for many of my Pentecostal brethren, it will be the first time they see no candidate in which they are comfortable casting a vote for, in all their adult lifetime: I’m 60–it hurts to not vote, but the lesser of two evils is not the answer for many of us in the year 2008. Its not the answer for me.

In fact in this election, its hard to distinguish just what party IS the lesser of two evils:

-The democrats, who’s platform includes countless issues which any bible believing Christian, could not possibly support..

-or The Republican candidates, one who tried to appease a portion of the Church by (obvious) manipulation, and who’s VP nominee has a dangerous dominionist background.

As i said, many of us who consider ourselves Pentecostals will not be voting for either of the two evils.

    God bless…

  3. The term Charismatic seems to be applied more to Catholics.. specically non pentecostal.. I am also about your age.. but i have been both Fundamental evangelical FOR ABOUT 2 DECADES, AND LATTER RAIN PENTECOSTAL FOR ABOUT 3 DECADES and I can can say there is a 180 degree difference.. one is fresh bread and the other is stale..

    >>As i said, many of us who consider ourselves Pentecostals will not be voting for either of the two evils.

I think this now is an extreme.. and Sarah Palin is definately a good choice.,, of what is available

There is no Bible verse that says a Ruler has to be a Christian though.. the elections are not about chosing heaven over Hell but about dealing with earthly problems.

  6. What saddens me is the fact that by not voting, people are actually both voting to make a statement and endorsing through silence both candidates. There is no middle ground in an election: one votes for one side or another, and by not voting one votes by silence and effectively throws away their vote where it matters most – the future of this country.

God will do what He will do. But we are each responsible for our actions and lack of actions. God put us where we are so that man might find God. By silently endorsing people who murder the unborn, through not voting against them, we stand on the enemies side. By not voting, we allow others to decide our future. By not voting, we we take away a tool God could use to direct the future of this nation.

since when.. the lie the devil tells you.. only perverse, immoral liberals can pass and enforce laws.. dream on

Right wing evangelicals, pentecostals now have the same rigths, free speech too as any of the others

there was even a Roman emperor who was a professing Christian

the Church and secular state persons will be seperate only in Hell..

  10. Well certainly, Palin cannot be “God sent”, because she rides in on the back of so many outright LIES. She did not sell the plane on ebay for a profit but to a private campaign contributor for a LOSS and a sweetheart deal. She did not oppose the “bridge to nowhere” but actually campaigned for it. And she is no reformer, having hired a PR firm to secure $27 million for Wasilla (pop. 5500!). Nor is she a competant manager, placing Wasilla $22 million in debt with her poor judgement. How she can face hereslf in the mirror is beyond me. We should all question exactly WHO really sent her!

whenever I read such pretentious hypocritical statements being made by any professing Christian now I am clearly reminded that often the same persons tend not to object or preach against marital divorce that God equally hates… 30 percent of professing evangelicals practice divorce, adultery.. such real unacceptable hypocrisy too.

  12. Acts 12:24 But the Word of the Lord continued to grow and spread.

(2 Cor 1:2 KJV) Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

About 1000 people read this post, I got one negative response, comment from an apparently jealous Pentecostal Dallas Pastor who clearly did not like Sarah Palin getting all of the media attention.. me I am really grateful and happy for her.. but I do not talk about politics alone and separate her from her religion, her church, her practise of Christianity, her light of the world, her salt of the earth, the refreshing..

ALL those who read my many posts know that I ADMIT I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THE WORD OF GOD, THE BIBLE, TO ME IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO FUNNY HOW SO MANY PEOPLE CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIAN AND FALSELY OPPOSE THE USAGE OF THE WORD Of GOD, IT BEING SAID, OR IT BEING PUBLISHED, on the net too. Now they should see just a few of my many sites, http://groups.msn.com/HolySpiritCome, http://pbulow.tripod.com/ , http://groups.msn.com/AFOLLOWEROFCHRIST they would really have a filed day of complaints., still only the word of God will change a man’s heart, not mere men’s words or mine..It will take God’s and His words to also try to change the world, not ours.. I have said openly many times before that the often visble lack of usage of the BIBLE BY CHRISTIANS ON CHRISTIAN INTERNET SITES SEEM TO INDICATE MORE THEIR REAL LACK OF SPIRITUALITY, BELIEF IN GOD AND IN HIS WORDS . I EVEN HAD ONE PERSON WRONGFULLY GO CRAZY ON ME WHEN I HAD PRINTED A BIBLE VERSE ON MY BUSINESS CARDS.

As far as her getting attention, I honestly don’t mind either way (hey she is/was A of G like me:) Politics are politics and I think we should be responsible citizens and participate in the process but honestly, it’s gonna be the love of Christ that we believers (ministers and lay people) are gonna to take to the world – that’s what will change the world.

  14. One wonders: What did Sarah Palin ever do to inspire the rage and bile that exploded on her selection by John McCain? What is there either in this woman’s record or resume to elicit such ferocity?

she was a mother of five who had brought into this world a baby boy with Down syndrome, thus living her Christian beliefs. That she was a small-town conservative who had risen from mayor of Wasilla (Pop. 9,700) to be governor of a state twice the size of Texas.

That she was a reformer who had dethroned an Old Boys’ Network by dumping a sitting Republican governor. That she had taken on Big Oil, taxed the companies and returned the money in $1,200 cheques to every citizen of Alaska. And that she had cut a deal with Canada to build a pipeline to bring natural gas to her fellow Americans.

And, oh, yes. She was “Sarah Barracuda” — a fierce high school athlete, a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, a Feminist for Life and lifetime member of the NRA. Introduced by McCain, she praised Hillary Clinton and pledged to finish her work by smashing through the glass ceiling in which Hillary had made 18 million cracks.

What, in any or all of this, is there to justify the feral attacks within minutes of her introduction? What had she done to cause this outburst? Answer: absolutely nothing.
No. Sarah Palin is not resented for what she has done, but for who she is: a Christian conservative who believes unborn children are gifts of God, even those with birth defects, and have a Godgiven right to life.

Normally, the press is reluctant to rummage into the private lives of public servants, unless their conduct affects their duties or they preach virtues they hypocritically do not practice.

  15. thenonconformer, I think you were confused by my statement.

I said, “By silently endorsing people who murder the unborn, through not voting against them, we stand on the enemies side. By not voting, we allow others to decide our future. By not voting, we we take away a tool God could use to direct the future of this nation.”

and you responded, “sorry but that is mere ostrich lies and a cop out.” And went on to say, “Good people work within the system….”

How is me saying that not voting makes us stand on the enemies side a cop out? My comment was in reference to the person who had said, “Others like myself, will not be voting this year.” I was TRYING to say that we MUST vote.

God set up a system of raising people into office that involves us voting. Who knows, it may be that by voting for McCain/Palin this time, we may actually be voting Palin, since McCain could die while in his first term in office.

For those who complain that Palin is a liar, I say that the liberal media WANT you to believe lies so you will vote for Obama or at least not vote for McCain. It is easy to say or write things or edit video in a slanted way to make people believe certain things were said that weren’t or that the facts are different than they are. Don’t trust the liberal media.

Pray and ask God if HE would have you not vote, or vote for McCain/Palin.
