Despite this, CTV says viewers chose the Canadian debate over the American one by a 3-1 margin in Toronto, 4-1 in Vancouver and 3.5-1 in Calgary. Locally, you can add your voice by telling us which debate you watched, or whether you watched at all, by participating in our weekend poll at http://www.therecord.com
CTV says they arrived at the numbers using data from all Canadian networks as well as from U.S. affiliates in each of those markets.
The network said more than three million Canadians watched the televised tussle between Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Liberal Leader Stephane Dion, NDP Leader Jack Layton, Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May on CBC, CTV, Global, Newsworld, TVO and CTV Newsnet.
Eight million viewers, they said, watched some part of the debate.
It’s difficult to draw comparisons to the last federal election, because there were two English-language debates during that campaign compared to one this time around. In addition, there was no U.S. election going on at the time.
In the U.S., meanwhile, far more people watched Biden and Palin than watched the first presidential debate between McCain and Obama.
Nielsen Media Research says preliminary ratings in the 55 biggest American markets were up 42 per cent from the same measurement of McCain and Obama’s first encounter on Sept. 26.
Nielsen’s specific estimate of how many people watched Thursday night will be out later, but indications are it will be one of the most-watched political debates ever.
wooo hooo! canada finally has some political voice!

I would hope Canadiens are watching their own more than the United States.
In this country, Sarah Palin has been over the line at times in steling John McCain’s thunder and spotlight. She may have come out too strong leading to some of her gaffes.

Nice to hear your views, too ..
Now let us try still to separate the truth, fact from fiction, theories, slanders, lies, libels as well . Some of the unreputable News media, Liberals and democrats lie that “Palin descends into the gutter” but telling the truth about their pet idol Obama is not allowed, how all hypocritical still too… clearly an unacceptable double standard. I am really not interested in mere personal false bashes, lies, slanders, even mere opinions on any religions, persons.. unrelated to the US politics and not detailed, substantiated too. I try to stay with the truth, reputable facts, not unsubstantiated personal opinions by even gangsters.. I rightfully try to separate the meat from the bones, the facts from fiction, and so should we all..
Everyone has an opinion, theory, unproven substantiated, and too often listens to the devil and his lies now too. You should know by now that everything you read, hear in the newspaper, on the net, even in the church is not necessity true, You need to use your own factual, valid judgments to evaluate it still too.
You say that :Sarah Palin is quoting Ronald Reagan, annoying as that is, it’s OK she gets it?”
and what do you even mean by that remark , it does not make any sense to me, I told you I cannot read your mind.. what you intended on saying .. Really do you have anything to say valid besides emotionally charged repetitious spewing, vomits of yours?
(Prov 23:8 KJV) The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
(Prov 25:16 KJV) Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
(Prov 26:11 KJV) As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
(Isa 19:14 KJV) The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.
(Isa 28:8 KJV) For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
(Jer 48:26 KJV) Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
(2 Pet 2:22 KJV) But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
You still did not tell me why you really oppose too any Bible quotations yourself too.
